Mr. Lower Back … 3 Years Old!

A month after I started blogging in 2008 I started my first experiment: a Hair Labo.
I named him Mr. Lower Back because at first he didn’t grow hair on his head … just other odd places.

It’s his 3rd birthday today. He’s looking pretty sad, but he keeps on going for some reason. (I had to re-attach his left eye for the photo)

Most of the people who first read the crap I was writing at the beginning have either stopped blogging or stopped leaving comments. That’s cool: everyone has a life … and hobbies/life/situations change.

Some of the first readers of this blog are still around though; Tony, S. Le, Turkish Prawn, Prairie Flounder, sweetiegirlz, and Pat Coakley to name a few who keep stopping by here … like I’ve got worms and they want to go fishing.

Thanks.

It’s been 3 years plus, but I’m not as sad looking as Mr. Lower Back … so I will continue.

note: I have to say that Tony  has sent more people this way than anyone else … for some reason. It’s really quite weird when I try to think about it … which I don’t enough. (I still miss another featured blog that had to do with which way the toiletpaper roll was hanging in the hotels the guy visited)

double note: I should eliminate a lot of the roll call from the blogroll, but I can’t … it’s my nature. I’d be Waiting for Godot … if I was in that play.
(I miss all of you)

triple note:  for everyone else on the blogroll who joined me at a later date … I’m not sure if I found you or you found me … I’m just glad you are still here. It makes the blogging hobby (blobby) very enjoyable.

quadruple note: all my other experiments are long gone or finished. Some were good, some were bad, some were boring … or not to my liking. They are still up at the top of the blog if you’ve got time to kill … and are really bored.
(I’d like to start a new experiment, but my local experiment shop has closed sadly: I’ll keep looking for something new though)

Today #170

Today was like ordering a pizza and calculating only 3 pieces will be mine … then a few people got sick unexpectantly and a few weren’t hungry … Total Score!!!
(this is an analogy: I don’t order pizza when more than 2 people are present)

The Whybrid

Here is a question for resident wind expert Prairie Flounder over at
 Sky Fishing :

Would a car with special high-tech pinwheels/whirly-gigs on it be able to create enough energy to run the car?

As soon as a car starts moving, all those things would be working non-stop.

It makes sense to me, but that’s not saying much.

note: maybe Bob Dylan was right, “The answer is blowin’ in the wind.

.

notes to myself #197

Growing up and getting older are two very different things.

If You Were Me …

solitaire: ... it's a state of mind

– you’d first try like hell to wake up from what you thought was a very bad nightmare.

– you’d know how clever all my computer passwords are, but maybe not so impressed with my PIN#s. (It’s hard to be clever with 4 numbers)

– you might think “volleyballbearings” is funny.

– I wouldn’t be expecting a lot of presents on birthdays or at Christmas.

– remember that the left hand performs all functions. The right hand just plays a supporting role with heavy stuff.

– you might find yourself halfway down a few slippery slopes.

– you’d quickly learn that you can’t do that here.

– you would soon find out that flattery works only so far here … and torture will take you the rest of the way quickly.

– you’d know what I thought about … whoever you were before me.

– you’d have to read the “owner’s manual” thoroughly.

– things might look shorter because you’d probably be taller than you are now … unless you were Prairie Flounder  … because he’s definitely taller than you if you were me.

– you’d probably be disappointed at how far things have deviated from factory specifications.

– I’m sure you’d be saying the same things as … whoever the hell I was before whoever I am now.

– you might crave Pop Tarts periodically.

-you really wouldn’t be me because I’d be someone else … hopefully.

note: – you’d know if I won this game of Solitaire.

double note: If I was you … well I wouldn’t know anything about that.

When I’m Not Blogging, I Seem To Visit …

I've been framed! I'm getting out of here!

… the same places over and over again!

I had 9 days off in a row one after the other consecutively: like a row of dominoes, each day fell quickly and toppled in to the next … and were rectangular, white, and had assorted black dots on them … unless you have those black dominoes with assorted white dots on them … then it was just like that!

My snake wrangling sister  and her son came: so I polished off the bells and whistles (they were a bit dusty … and quiet), pulled out all the stops (hidden behind the Christmas ornament in the closet), and gave them the planetross super deluxe grand tour de forcefulness.

rubber chicken god ... or something

It’s kind of nice revisiting places, especially with people who haven’t been there before.
It makes me look like I know something!
… and we had a rubber chicken which always comes in handy.

Forget Dian Fossey! ... there are monkeys in the mist too!

In Nikko, I know that the chance of actually seeing the “sacred white horse” in it’s stable is slim; I know what shrines and temples are included on the one day ticket; I even know where the monkeys are! (usually)

nice roost!

In Matsumoto, I know the castle has a secret floor, all the staircases are in separate locations on each floor, and the staircases rise at angles between 55 and  61 degrees.

they look pretty safe in that case

I knew that if I didn’t take pictures of the old guns inside Prairie Flounder  and Turkish Prawn  would be disappointed.

no rifleling through the exhibit

are you feeling lucky shogun?

say hello to my little friend!

I said draw ... not drawl!

I also know that taking pictures of things in glass cases doesn’t usually work too well for me.

noisy little bastard!

I know cicadas are noisy little bastards everywhere! (random fact … consider it a bonus)

Boo Foo Woo!

In Hiroshima, I know that I took the right exit when I see the “Boo Foo Woo” supermarket sign and the “Gush” sign … that I still have no idea about what they are selling.
Possibly there are other “Boo Foo Woo” supermarkets  at the other Hiroshima exits, but so far I’ve been lucky.

another day of no surfing

I know it’s the #2 tram that takes people to the ferry going to Miyajima; I know the seats on the trams make me bounce up and down in a silly way; I know that I really should start checking when the damn tide will be in!

I know where I am now

I know the A-bomb dome is pretty hard to miss at night too!

It’s amazing to think that I feel more comfortable driving in to Hiroshima than cities back at home: Vancouver is still a mystery to me.

Atomic Bomb Museum

Atomic Bomb Museum

I know that something in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum will make me think about the bigger picture and how lucky I’ve been … and that life is fleeting and you better enjoy it while you can because you never know what card will be dealt next.

sweeping rocks!!!

In Kanazawa, I know that the same staff will be sweeping the same paths at the Kenrokuen Garden.

no garbage cans available

I know I will stick my head into this thing outside the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art on every visit.

poor choice of shirts that day

I know I sweat a lot and am possibly getting a bit thin up top!  Thanks for mentioning it! (the sweat is real, but the thinning hair could be a trick of light possibly)

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa

I know I will see cool art/statues/posters around the city … that I didn’t see the last time.

Can I take your photo? ... and ... er ... Can you hold this rubber chicken?

I know that if a family member is with me, I’ll probably have to ask random people to do random silly things in front of the camera … and they will say yes.

I know I know I know. I’ve been there before.

note: If you come to Japan keep a bit of bread in your pocket because you’ll probably come across hungry carp in ponds somewhere when you least expect it.

double note: we also saw the Nagaoka fireworks and the Numata Matsuri … but I always go to those things … so I won’t mention them here. I think the “snake wrangler”  and “son of snake wrangler” had a good time: typhoonish weather, a little earthquake, a 5 hour traffic jam, and  enough lightning to power a lightning storm rounded out the trip.

I’ll Be Bark!

I'll be bark!

The Terminator has a dog?
How unbelievable is that?

That’s just so phoney!

Everyone knows the Terminator loves cats!

note: it must be a SkyeNet Terrier

double note: I had to research that first “note“. Do I win a prize?

triple note: I was interviewed by Prairie Flounder  over at
Sky Fishing. If you’re interested … or not … check out his cool blog

quadruple note: the interview link is the “interested” one.

Out Of Sight, Out Of My Mind

landscapism

Nice day,  innit?

Tammy  over at The Tessarae  wondered if I missed anyone while I was off on vacation.

Missed” is a pretty strong word, … so is “strong” or “blue cheese“.

Did I think of any of you at all a little bit even fleetingly on my excursion? No, not a bit.

I didn’t think of S. Le  over at I Feel Unusual  at all … which is unusual.

alcoholiday

I definitely didn’t think of S. Le‘s witty line to Cynical Scribble  about “alcologic“.

difficult to walk on properly

Tammy   never passed through my mind at all while taking this shot of flowers by a strange bridge thingey.

tacky tanuki

Tacky Raccoons   was the furthest thing from my thoughts, although I thought about his cousin the Drunk Tanuki a little.

oh so delicious

Epicurienne   didn’t cross my mind or palate.

painting rocks

Bonnie Luria   never crossed my palette or my mind.

old building blocked by shadows

sweetiegirlz   and her old buildings never entered my head once.

from ground zero on a better day

w1kkp  and her photos of normal from a different angle didn’t enter my head once with this shot looking up into the sky over ground zero in Hiroshima.

a sensitive ear

I must have had amnesia about Buck Frain  while snapping this shot of an art poster outside of … someplace … somewhere.

the floating torii that wasn't floating at this time

razzbuffnik   never floated through my head while taking this shot of the floating torii at Miyajima. It only floats when the tide’s in though I guess.

very self explanatory

Dennis the Vizsla  never entered the doggie door in my head while I snapped this one.

old guns inside ... lots of 'em!

Turkish Prawn  and Prairie Flounder  were completely absent while looking at the seriously old guns from the 1500’s tucked away inside Matsumoto Castle.

wait! there's an encore!!!

I really didn’t think of Doraz  while extremely happy and warm and fuzzy.

 not sure what this is

I didn’t even remember Hot Lard  while taking this one … which is very difficult to do … because they are just rude.

stack 'em and rack 'em

I did think about Jim’s Muse  though.

… and Tony  was always a little out of my mind … but I’ve deleted those photos.

where ever I lay my head

I usually just thought about myself the whole entire time.

note: I “heart” all of you  in my blogroll … in a manly non-physical way.

bummer of a birthmark

double note: I’ve missed out a lot of people on the blogroll. I thought of you constantly, but didn’t take any photos … of  skittles, very strangely organized stuff, funny wordplays, penguins, etc … . (sad face)

triple note: I’m sorry if I haven’t caught up on all your blogs, I will shortly (smiley face)

quadruple note: if I’ve offended anyone by not mentioning them, I haven’t meant to.

What’s In My Head At The Moment

Here are a few ideas that are floating around in my head at the moment and might make it on to the blog in some form or another in the near future.

up-and-coming

note: thanks to Prairie Flounder over at Sky Fishing  for doing a Wordle on his site,  prometheuscomic for giving me the idea of a sneak preview, and Kelly Pettit  who walked me through the process of “screen capture” over the telephone system with no wires.
