I’m going to become a “trainspotter spotter” until that becomes popular

… then I’ll probably become a “trainspotter spotter spotter”.

I don’t know what I’ll do next, when that becomes popular!

note: there’s an old steam train around here that shoots out of a mountain tunnel onto a trestle bridge that goes over a river every Sunday around 11:30 am. It must look pretty cool: there are always a half dozen trainspotters waiting for it.

double note: here is the steam train on another section of the track, if you are into trains and stuff.

Today I missed the train again … and the boat … and the bus …
but I thought about them.

If I Had A GeograPHist Full Of Money

I’d like to visit every country in the world: it’s not a goal, it’s just a wish.

If it happens, it happens: if it doesn’t, no problem.

I don’t want to be the person who says, “I’ve been there.
I don’t want to be the person who pulls out his passport for you to have a look at.
I don’t want to be the person who is wearing an “East Timor” t-shirt.

I just want to see how all the other people live on this planet.

I’m a curious sort.

note: I don’t want to go to the moon: there are no people  there.

double note: wouldn’t it be nice to “go on location” like actors. … “I’m cutting hair in Zimbabwe this week and next week I’ll be in Honduras for a few weeks, after that I’m scheduled for Belgium.

triple note: if I don’t have millions of dollars, I’ll go to all the cheap countries first. hee hee!

Today #162

The only person I said more than 2 words to today was the bald guy in the shower at the gym: I asked him how often he shaved his head.
once every 3 days was the answer.

Hobbies

I went to a bicycle shop with Mr. Pettit  today. He is a cyclist: it’s one of his passions/hobbies.

Me? What’s my passion/hobby?

I collect thoughts, phrases, ideas, and other things requiring little space.

I don’t need a space ship … a space shoebox will do.

note: I don’t need a bicycle either … just a seat is okay.

double note: since Razzbuffnik seems to be on hiatus, here is a band that defines cool … or hip on planetross:

Today I realized that humming in a drum is okay sometimes.

Hobbies

A hobby is an activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation in one’s spare time. (from wikipedia)

My hobby isn’t working!

note: these are “Spare Times“.

double note: more spare time during a strike period sounds good if you’re  bowling, but not so good if you aren’t.

triple note: I’m a “license plate spotter“! … yeah, yeah, yeah I know what you’re thinking … “where’s ‘0’“? … it’s elusive … very elusive.

quadruple note: there are some serious “slobbies” out there!

At least up until 44, you’ve never run out of gas! … knock on wood.

Theo’s Thoughts

Collected Thoughts

This is the story of Theo when he was eight and not so rottenish yet.

Theo thought he needed a hobby; actually, his parents insisted he do something other than skulk around claiming he was bored all the time.

All his friends had hobbies: sports cards, stamps, coins, trainspotting, advanced robotics, …

One of his friends even collected teeth; but his father was a dentist, so that was only mildly disturbing.

Theo decided to collect his thoughts.

He would put them in jars, label them, and keep them in a bookcase that was really doing nothing except holding a bunch of  books.

He thought about all the thoughts he thought in one day …or at least thought about all the thoughts he thought he thought about in one day … and realized he had too many thoughts to collect all of them.
He only had 35 jars, so he decided “happy thoughts” might be a good start.

Over the next few weeks he collected and organized all his “happy thoughts” about finding money, ice cream, toys, running through sprinklers, …

In no time at all, all his jars were full!
Surprisingly, 3 jars were exclusively filled with “happy thoughts” about ice cream!

It was a very fine collection of thoughts.

He soon realized that since all his “happy thoughts” were bottled up, labelled, and stacked away; he had a very large number of “sad thoughts” floating around in his head.
With no “happy thoughts” to chase the “sad thoughts” away, they just lingered.

This made him sadder.

Theo decided it would be a good idea to free all his “happy thoughts” and start collecting his “sad thoughts” instead.

He refilled his jars with “sad thoughts” about broken bones, no dessert, vaccination needles, dropped ice cream cones, dentist visits …

Other Collected Thoughts ... and some asparagus too

It took him a whole month to fill up all 35 jars.

He concluded that “sad thoughts” were more difficult to trap  than “happy thoughts” because they didn’t like jars.

With no more “sad thoughts” in his head, Theo thought he’d be really happy: but he wasn’t.

Without any “sad thoughts” to balance his “happy thoughts“, his “happy thoughts” weren’t as strong or happy anymore …  kind of like appreciating being healthy a lot more after being sick … or how a cold Winter makes Spring’s arrival so much better. He needed both sadly, or happily.

Theo decided to release his “sad thoughts” and resolved  never to collect his thoughts ever again.

He used the 35 jars to catch colds instead.

note: The jar of asparaguses on the floor is not a “sad thought“: Theo just dropped it accidentally on purpose while walking by the bookcase on the way to the dinner table. He had a “happy thought” right after he did this for some reason.

Crafts

I’ve found a hobby!

I’ve signed up for this great course; it involves working with my hands, making things, being creative.

I don’t consider myself a craft orientated person, but I may have a knack for this one.

note: the little stand outside the shop was empty: no surprise there really.

double note: I think I have an “appointment” with “disa“.

Matches

I’m not a big collector.

I have a clear plastic coin bank that is shaped like a head. I don’t like to collect change, so I am filling it up with matches instead.

Places aren’t giving away matches like they used to: I guess the non-smokers are winning the battle.

I’m not too serious about my match collection.
It’s just a bonus when I find some.
Oooo Matches!

note: I’m thinking about collecting plastic heads next.
