Road Trippin’

The pump don’t work ’cause the vandals took the handles” Bob Dylan from “Subterranean Homesick Blues

Aren’t road trips great?

Driving off to parts unknown for a big adventure with a bunch of friends.

Anything could happen!

Whether just a couple of days, a few weeks, or longer; it’s almost like being in a Bob Dylan song, a Jack Kerouac book, or a Tom Green movie.

A road trip in any kind of vehicle is great; but for me, travelling in a van just adds another dimension to the greatness of a road trip.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia factor: all those hippies driving around having free love all over the place, blowing their minds at never ending giant outdoor rock festivals, and getting to be in that old Woodstock movie.

I guess hippies used vans for different reasons: they held a lot of people, were relatively cheap, and had a built in pad to crash in.

Those hippies were a pretty practical bunch, but not very nostalgic.

note: should this van be called “Morrison“?

double note: Wavy Gravy is 72 years old.

SPECIAL NOTE: Amazing photo by nathaliewithanh.

post-post note: co-sky pilot and travelling minstrel Kelly Pettit.

  1. Words escape me. It looks like the vagi-van, but I can’t be sure. Perhaps I need new lenses. Perhaps I accidentally ingested LSD at lunchtime. Totally tripped out.
How do the locals take to such visions?

epicurienne: it is the vagi-van! It’s just in an “altered state” thanks to nathaliewithanh. Myself and Mr. Pettit have been morphed as well.

  2. Ha!Ha! Van Morrison! I dig it!

Epic, It IS the Vagivan – I even left the Vagisticker on it. Doesn’t planetross look just right as a hippie dude?

nathaliewithanh: I look like a cosmicmuffin and Mr. Pettit like Gabe Kotter!

  3. Cheech and Chong would be jealous dude!

    We’ve never looked so good!

Kelly Pettit: speak for yourself Cheech. hee hee

  4. The first thing that crossed my mind was, “Oh no. Japanese hippies?”

Actually, as I think about it, it reminds me of a guy named Yoshi I knew. He left Japan because he didn’t like the stress. He drove around in a 1976 Plymouth and rarely moved before noon. He would have fit right in this picture.

  5. Ha I like the “Vandals took the handles” line

  6. Thanks for the comments.

Turkish Prawn: there are a lot of Japanese hippies: don’t be fooled by the news!

Tony: when nathalie sent the photo, that’s the first thing that popped into my head.

    S. Le: I can either take it in the “Who stole my car, dude?” way or the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle” way or “The Big Lebowski” way or the “60’s/70’s” way.
I choose the “Big Lebowski” way, but that’s just me. I could be wrong; I usually am.

  7. It is all of the above. I repeat, “DUDE!”
