Margaret Hamilton ( December 9 , 1902 – May 16 , 1985 ) was an American film actress best known for her iconic portrayal of The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz .
To be remembered forever for one role in the movies.
No matter what else you do, you are …
The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket
Marion Crane in Psycho
It could be worse: you could be unrecognizable and famous like the guys who play C-3PO and R2-D2 in the Star Wars films.
or
just a voice like HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Who are your Once in a Lifetime Role people?
note: It must suck to work with Muppets.

Interesting view on how people can get stuck in a role because that is the only way others see them.
I think Kramer is type-cast. I don’t see how he could play any other role and have others take him seriously without being like “Hey, it’s Kramer!”. Although I did see him in an episode of Miami Vice once… It’s was hilarious!

That would have to be Capt. James T. Shatner!
Even when he was T.J. Hooker, it was like Capt. Kirk had taken a retirement job at the local police station. Could he POSSIBLY be any one else?

Wasn’t she in some Folgers commercials or something too? Maybe not.
Speaking of muppets, I think Kermit was typecast. It’s not easy being green.

Wallace Shawn. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001728/
I know he’s been in a crapload of movies, but whenever I see him I always think of Vizzini in ‘The Princess Bride’.

Kramer, Captain James Tiberius Kirk, and Kermit are good ones.
Shawn Wallace! what a voice and face. John Fieldler (Mr. Peterson in the old Bob Newhart Show and the voice of Piglet in Winnie the Pooh) is in the same league as him.
diesel: Cora for Maxwell House Coffee
I saw that while looking for a photo

I think Jim Neighbors (gomer pyle) was a one role guy as well. Someone mentioned William Shatner. He is now in one of my all time fav shows “Boston Legal” He is very different then Capt Kirk in that show…he’s hillarious! I think Susan Lucci also tried to be someone other then Erica kane but…she is who she is!

I was gunna say Jim Neighbors but I was beaten to it so I’ll have to say Bob Denver (Gilligan’s Island) & definitely Mr. Ed because;
A horse is a horse of course of course & everyone knows a horse can’t talk that is of course unless the horse’s name is Mister Ed
